This project shows how early strategic direction can shape a brand from its first steps, helping a growing organization build recognition and consistency without needing to reinvent itself later.

Where things began

CrossIce Developments started with a clear vision but no established brand identity. Founder Chance Szott approached Dynamic Graphics and Design with an early logo concept and a tight timeline ahead of the upcoming hockey season.
The challenge was to transform an initial idea into a recognizable and scalable brand that could resonate with players, parents, and organizations across Alberta while supporting rapid early growth.

Establishing strategic direction

Rather than focusing on visual trends, the work began by clarifying positioning and audience expectations.
The goal was to build a strong identity early so the business could grow without needing constant reinvention. The brand needed to feel energetic and confident while staying grounded in the culture and discipline of Canadian hockey.
This meant creating a system that could evolve naturally as the organization expanded, allowing future design decisions to build from a clear foundation instead of starting over.

How the work unfolded

The first phase translated a rough logo sketch into a complete visual identity. Typography, colour direction, and visual structure were developed to ensure the brand remained recognizable across different platforms and environments.
With a tight launch timeline, the initial website focused on clarity and usability. Structure and messaging were prioritized so visitors could quickly understand the training philosophy and available programs without confusion.
As CrossIce grew, the brand evolved through steady refinement rather than major reinvention. The website was refreshed to reflect the organization’s maturity, improving navigation and functionality while maintaining consistency with the original foundation.
Design support extended across marketing materials and visual communication, helping maintain alignment as the business expanded into a multi staff operation with year round programming.

What changed over time

CrossIce Developments evolved from a startup concept into a recognized hockey training organization with a clear visual identity and confident online presence.
Because the brand foundation was built strategically from the start, growth could happen without losing clarity or consistency. The identity remained recognizable even as services expanded and the organization matured.
This project reflects how long term collaboration and steady strategic refinement can strengthen clarity over time. Rather than a single redesign, the work evolved through multiple phases as the organization grew.

Strategic closing insight

When brand decisions begin with positioning and clarity rather than surface appearance, growth becomes easier to manage. Strong early direction reduces the need for repeated redesign, allowing the brand to evolve naturally alongside the business.
